My Analysis on Namescon 2016 Survey Results

nams1Last week NamesCon released very honest survey results and responses from the 2016 show. The event had around 1200 attendees and had its official start on Sunday Jan 10th with two new features, the Networking lane, and the Topic Discussion Tables. Overall, I’d say the conference was a huge success and the results of the survey reflects that.

I’ll highlight here some of the feedback and responses that stood out most to me, but I encourage you to check out the full article to learn more about what you can expect next year. There was a call for more communication, specifically more information about speakers, agenda topics and deadlines. NamesCon will add a social media guru to the staff this year in order to keep us all more informed, but wait for it… they’ll also be a dedicated NamesCon App where you can get information and updates before, during and after the show.

“We are implementing a comprehensive show app this year that will allow companies, speakers and attendees to interact and network prior to, during and after the show. This means you will be able to create an in-app profile or export your existing profile from Facebook or LinkedIn, follow the movements and actions of other attendees, send private messages, and create groups according to shared interests.”- NamesCon’s 2016 Survery Response


There was a great response to NamesCon practice of offering earlier bird specials and you can expect that to continue this year, but for those of you who aren’t aware, the current $299 special will end on February 14th, so get over there now if you want to take advantage of that great deal.

Some of you offered feedback about having meals included with the cost of the ticket; that may not be in the cards for next year. The organizers are working to keep ticket prices within reach of anyone who wants to attend and that may mean that food stays off the menu. Here’s how they respond:

“NamesCon registration prices have been kept low to remain accessible to a wider audience. Including meals for everyone would drastically increase ticket prices, which is not a priority for all attendees. Already included in your ticket price is an open bar at the Opening Reception and the WaterNight Gala, a dinner buffet for Women in Domaining, plus free coffee and tea. We are looking into the feasibility of including another open breakfast or dinner during NamesCon 2017.” –NamesCon’s 2016 Survey Response

Most of you were pleased with the hotel rates, but not as pleased with the actual conference venue. NamesCon says their already committed to the current venue for the 2017 show, but will reevaluate things for future shows. This is another cost saving measure the organizers have taken to keep ticket prices down, and a new location could possibly mean higher costs to the attendees-somethin the Team would like to avoid. Their plan is to survey again after the next show, and make decisions with our feedback in mind.


Logistical feedback is always great for any organizer of an event like NamesCon. There was feedback about the location of the topic tables, seating during sessions, requests for non-industry keynotes, and around 25% of the attendees preferred 3 days instead of 4. The Team is committed to offering quality content and their strategy may include decreasing the number of sessions being offered and limiting the number going on at one time. Here is there response the conference days:

“Sunday will remain an official conference day and as the Network Lane was a roaring success we will again have 30+ company tables. The Topic Tables will take on more of a “Meet The Expert” theme. Sunday evening brings our Opening Cocktail Networking Party and Monday morning starts with our regularly scheduled sessions and events for three days, with final sessions and exhibits now ending earlier on Wednesday.”- NamesCon’s 2016 Survey Response

And for those of you who are more interested in Networking instead of dancing, no worries, the organizers have a plan in mind for helping to facilitate more networking opportunities, which include toning down the music at the opening night reception:

“We’ll be adjusting the Sunday Opening Reception to more of a lounge-style event to accommodate efficient networking. And we’ll watch the volume during the WaterNight Gala – at least during the earlier hours of the evening!” –NamesCon’s 2016 Survey Response

In response to the request to market the conference to more end users and potential clients, the Team encourages everyone to share their experience at NamesCon with networks you’re connected to. Invite them to come check out the show for themselves to see what it’s all about. Word of mouth has always and probably will always be the most effective marketing tool for any business, event, or product. Along with our efforts, Team NamesCon will be working to attract a wider range of exhibitors and attendees as well.
